WEEE – Electrical scrap
![]() |
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is a rapidly growing waste stream that covers everything from computers to washing machines. With their largest constituents being iron and steel, nearly 4 million tonnes of ferrous scrap are extracted from WEEE in Europe each year. E-scrap is a growth market – rising roughly three times faster than other forms of municipal waste. As it grows, however, so do the quantities of contaminants appearing in the ferrous scrap stream. According to a specialist in processing discarded electrical devices, the percentage of copper particles fastened to shredded steel parts from WEEE now ranges from 0.2% to 5%. This is a considerable problem for scrap processors, who must meet the stipulated < 0.25% copper threshold. The ReSteel Solution reduces the copper levels found in WEEE scrap by at least 90%. The result is a ferrous fraction of almost pure iron, and comprising 75-85% of the total scrap volume. Find out more about how your company can benefit from the ReSteel Solution. |
